MAI 2010

MX MOWA. Pepijn is working on a painting for the legendary mister MX, director of the Museum of Weird Art (MOWA). Still extremely and utterly secret, so unfortunately we are not able to show any previews at this moment. More on MOWA:

The lady in the garden. After a couple of days harsh labour, struggling hard to keep his pieces together, Pepijn managed to reassemble his 'Dame en haar dwerg' for the 2010 summer exhibition at Anningahof sculpture garden, Zwolle. His more recent sculptures 'Laatste Mammoet' and 'Fuping bird' will be exhibited there this summer as well. Opening: Saturday, May 22, 2010. Open until October 31, 2010. More on Anningahof:

Urban Explorer/Gogbot. Urban Explorer is a public Space art event from Medialab Enschede which will be held in August and September 2010 in Enschede, the Netherlands. For this project Pepijn will sculpt 10 ceramic Robots, and manufacture 80 plastic versions. More information:

140 hits in Art. Pepijn has made a painting for the project '140 hits in Art', a book in which 140 artists have illustrated their favorite song. Pepijn's painting 'Crossroads' is based on a Tom Waits song. The book will be published somewhere in the near future and the painting will be part of the exhibition. More information:

Fuping Bird. Pepijn is working on a ceramic serie, called the 'Fuping birds'. The first Fuping Bird came into existance in 2008 during the working period at the Fule International Ceramic Art Museums (FLICAM) in Fuping, China. After this Pepijn decided to make a serie. Every Fuping bird is an original work of Art, pressmolded, fired and glazed by the artist himself at Struktuur 68 in The Hague. Three Tsarina's. Early 2008 Pepijn had a solo exhibition at Gasunie (the Dutch Gas providing company) in the city of Groningen, the Netherlands. This exhibition took place at the same time of a beautiful exhibition on Russian 19th century art, all inspired by fairy tales and folk tales, at the Groninger museum. After the exhibition, Gasunie commissioned a sculpture that had to be inspired by the painting 'The Three Tsarina's of the underground realms' by Victor Vasnetsov.
Pepijn started the project in October 2008 and recently finished the 'Tsarina's' (or 'Princesses'), three separate large scale ceramics sculptures. And now, fresh from the kiln, the three ladies are presented at the exhibition 'Art is silver, gas is gold - Gasworks from the Gasunie art collection' in the art hall of the village Slochteren.

Opening friday evening 19th June, 20.00 hrs. Exhibition 19th June – 19th September 2009. Art hall of the Slochteren Town Hall, Hoofdweg 10A, Slochteren.

Summer in the garden.

Buitenplaats, Tessloo. The sculpture 'Lady and her dwarf' is still to be seen at the exhibition 'Dynamiek' in the amazing sculpture garden 'Buitenplaats Tessloo'. The garden and my Lady were recently shown at Dutch National television in the art program 'AVRO's Kunstuur'.

Landgoed Anningahof, Zwolle. This summer Pepijn is presenting two new small ceramic sculptures in the exhibition space at sculpture garden 'Landgoed Anningahof'. The exhibition lasts till October 25th 2009.

Heemtuin garden, Leiderdorp. And last but not least, 'Afterwar Delight', a large book reading ceramic rat, is still sitting on the rocks at Heemtuin garden, Leiderdorp. The exhibition 'De Heemtuin verbeeld II' lasts till October 15th 2009.

Kites for Kids. Pepijn is participating in 'Kites for Kids'. 150 decorated kites are exhibited at the The Hague city hall (Atrium), from april 11th till may 2nd. After the show the kites will be sold, the money goes to the Ronald McDonald house The Hague.

Feyenoord 100 years anniversary relief (2). Pepijn has recently finished a ceramic relief for the 100 years anniversary of soccer club Feyenoord. The work, commissioned by the borough Feijenoord Rotterdam, will be placed on the site where the club was established in 1908, in cafe 'De Vereeniging'. The former building was torn down some years ago, nowadays it is an apartment building (Damstraat 2, Rotterdam).

Work in progress: The Three Tsarinas. Pepijn is working on three ceramic sculptures commissioned by the head office of Dutch Gasunie. The work is inspired by the Russian fairytale "The three queens (or tsarinas) from the underground kingdom".

China in June - Between May 24th and July 4th 2008 I have been working in Fuping China (near Xian). I have been working together with the artists Anton Reijnders, Nick Renshaw, Tejo Philips, Ingrid Mol, Hans van Bentem, Remco Posthuma and Adriaan Rees, on ceramic sculptures for the Dutch Pavilion of the FLICAM (FuLe International Ceramic Art Museums) at Fuping. In the short term working period of this residency we succeeded to make a beautiful exhibition.
I would like to thank the employees of the workshop and factory, the initiator dr. I Chi Hsu, the foundation PMK (Promotion Monumental Ceramics), and the Dutch Embassy.

Lady at Buitenplaats Tessloo - This summer the brand new 'Lady and her dwarf' sculpture will appear in the new sculpturegarden Buitenplaats Tessloo. Buitenplaats Tessloo, Zwarte Wegje 1, Oisterwijk. The ceramic scale model will be exhibited at the sculpturegarden Landgoed Anningahof in Zwolle.

H.M.S. is back - In January 2004 Pepijn's painting "H.M.S. Kaptein Evol" mysteriously disappeared from the exhibition in Pulchri Studio and was reported stolen. Three and a half years later the artist –by chance– came across an advertisement on the Internet. Someone was trying to sell the painting.

Abklopfen & Neuputzen - Pepijn is participating in the Exhibition Abklopfen & Neuputzen at Livingstone gallery in Den Haag. Abklopfen & Neuputzen is a project from the Foundation Promotion Monumental Ceramics (PMK). Each of the four initiators chose an artist and they had to react on their work. The chosen artist had to react on the work of the initiator too. The exhibition is showing 24 ceramic ‘conversation-pieces’ and a selection of their own work. June 9th till July 21st 2007.

'Najaarstentoonstelling' at Pulchri: Remus takes the cake, again - Pepijns painting “Remus takes the cake” (2001) is part of the autumn-exhibition at Pulchri Studio in The Hague. Remus was previously shown at the Artoonism in the third degree show at MAMA, Rotterdam.
A full-size Cirque de Pepin solo-show at Pulchri is coming up in February 2005.

New ceramics preview: Vliegenpaus - The last three months Pepijn and the other three artoonists have been working in the European Ceramic Work Center in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. “Vliegenpaus” (Fly-pope or Pope-of-flies) is one of two large monumental sculptures made by Pepijn. Cirque de Pepin in NEOTRAD show: New works in upcoming show 'NEOTRAD' at mama, Rotterdam - NEOTRAD exhibition, February 14th - April 4th 2004. Neotrad is a group-exhibition that answers the blooming interest for tradition, crafts and regional cultural heritage, all clearly visible in the choices of exhibition makers, contemporary artists and a growing audience.
